The development process started with a gas station in foreclosure on a piece of land in two municipalities with environmental challenges in the worst economic conditions in generations, and the process has ended with a terrific retail and residential community. In between were lots of little steps, and several enormous leaps. With unprecedented cooperation between Whitefish Bay and Shorewood, and a truly dynamic public/private partnership between the developer and Shorewood, the team has produced an award-winning mixed-use community of the highest value.

The WiRED team is dedicated to sustainable development. Located in a truly walkable community, on a bus line and on a formerly contaminated site, The Cornerstone meets the highest objectives for re-use of urban sites. We followed the most stringent standards in decommissioning and remediating the gas station and the contamination from the former car dealership on the site.
